The Groom is your childhood buddy and you really want to give him a wedding gift that he will appreciate and remember. Monogram towels are definitely out. When faced with the task of choosing a wedding gift, think of the bridal couple’s personality. Here we go again with that “personality” word! Leave the discount store gift registry for Aunt Susie. Seriously, they are your friends, (family) so what are their hobbies and interests?
Do they enjoy reading? Maybe a beautiful collection of classics or a subscription to a Book of the Month Club would do the trick. Reading and music are both luxuries that most of us enjoy but feel guilty purchasing for ourselves. So do the bridal couple a favor and pick up that leather bound copy of “The Ring and the Book” by Robert Browning.
While we are on the subject, music is a great gift. I am not just talking CDs here boys. Think big and grab some concert tickets for their favorite band. Even better, collaborate with some friends and put together a Concert Gift Weekend. Book the hotel out of town and maybe supper gift certificates for the before concert meal. This could be so awesome! The couple will definitely remember your thoughtful gift!
Consider a strong, woven basket filled with vintage wine or Champaign. Maybe even choose a wine from the year of their birth and tuck in a little note: “Save this bottle for your first anniversary” and “this bottle for your tenth anniversary”. Finish with the challenge, “THIS bottle is for your Golden wedding anniversary! I hope I am invited to the party 50 years from now!”
Are they the outdoor type? How about ski lift tickets for Keystone or Breck? Maybe a couple’s sized tent, camping gear (which by the way, can be expensive for a couple to try purchase on their own). Pick up a trail map for a beautiful bike trail and tuck in a confirmation for a weekend’s stay at the lodge on the lake.
Maybe your friends are more of the “Take me to the Spa and make me your King” kind of people. No problem! Find a spa that will provide full body massage, manicure and pedicure service and maybe even some hairstyle makeover. They can both enjoy feeling pampered without the guilt.
If you have never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast, you are really missing out on one of the best kept secrets to a happy relationship. It is easy to find B & Bs and arrange for a one night romp or a weekend get-away. Bed and Breakfasts provide unique history served with delicious food that can’t be duplicated by chain restaurants. Be sure to provide the B & B brochure with your gift to help them anticipate their stay.
Or you could just wrap up her favorite candy, a box of crackers, pack of cheese, his favorite beer and two pairs of socks. Tell them these are the ONLY required items for a really great weekend, and you expect a full report on Monday.
